Christmas Carols

Saturday 9: Christmas Carols

1) What’s the first holiday song that comes to mind? Elvis’ version of Here Comes Santa Claus. While I do not consider myself a big Elvis fan, I do enjoy his Christmas album very much. Chris does a wonderful karaoke version of Blue Christmas, but that’s not what popped into my brain just now.

2) Are you sending cards (either by postage service or email) this year? If so, have they gone out yet? No. And it’s unlikely. I may send one to my Gram.

3) Can you see any holiday decorations from where you’re answering these questions? As it happens, I’m in the break room at work on Friday morning using one of the computers set up for internet access. Chris had to be at work early, so I had a couple hours to kill. Thank goodness Gal posted early. The only bad part is I’m forced to use Internet Explorer. Anyway, most of the teams have decorated their areas, but the break area which the company insists upon calling the “relaxatorium” is unadorned. When I hit publish tomorrow, I’ll be at my desk in the dinning room sitting practically next to our Christmas tree in the living room. {Edit: As it happens, I’m back in the break area finishing up and publishing on Saturday since I have post work plans. Still no decorations and the next computer over someone is getting into some major personal drama via phone and Facebook. *sigh* Merry Freaking Christmas!}

4) Do you wrap gifts in paper or take the gift bag route? As much as I’m always saying I’m not much for holidays, I do have opinions on these matters. I dislike gift bags, overall, since they don’t have the same effect of creating suspense. If I do use a gift bag, either because I’m in a hurry with no time to wrap properly or because the gift’s shape defy proper wrapping, I use plenty of tissue paper to obscure the item.

5) The holidays are an important fundraising time for charities. Here’s an opportunity to do a shameless plug for your favorite. What organization or cause do you wish got more support at the holidays, and all year around? I’ll plug one of Rob Paulsen’s – voice of Pinkie of Pinkie and the Brain & Yacko Warner – favorite charities Operation Smile which provides treatment for children with cleft lip and pallet in developing nations. Bonus plug, Rob also supports Wounded Warrior Project. If you order autographs from his website, he donates 100% of the proceeds to these to organizations. Narf!

6) Andy Williams was famous for his family holiday specials. What TV family would most like to spend Christmas with? The Waltons were awfully good at Christmas.

7) The holidays are a big time for travel. Where did you go on your first airplane flight? From San Diego to Ohio. I do believe it was for Christmas. I was about five or six years old.

8) Does the weather have an impact on your mood? Not really. I’m indoors the vast majority of the time either way.

9) Snack time! You’re about to make yourself your favorite sandwich. What ingredients do you need? Really good whole grain bread, perhaps something nutty. A little turkey. Swiss cheese or sharp cheddar. Tons of tomato. Cucumber. Avocado slices. The only problem is I’m not sure I’ve ever had that exact sandwich. Favorite by times eatten would be peanut butter – just creamy peanut butter – or grilled cheese. Honorable mention to the classic dinner club.

  1. The Waltons would be a good family to spend Christmas and I favor peanut butter over a lot of sandwiches.

  2. You are a woman who takes her sandwiches seriously! Operation Smile is a wonderful charity. I grew up near a boy who had a cleft pallet and it gave me a greater understanding of how much those kids have to overcome — even after the surgery. So I know Operation Smile does important work.
