SATURDAY 9: HAPPY HOLIDAYS
1. As you can see, Sam loved giving her annual wish list to Santa. Yet some children are reluctant to climb into Jolly Old St. Nick’s lap. Did you enjoy the tradition or were you shy? Or did you by pass it altogether — either because you wrote him a letter or because your family didn’t celebrate Christmas? I have no memories of going to see Santa as a small child. I don’t remember ever believing in Santa. I went through the pictures my parents had scanned a couple years ago to see what I evidence I could find. The picture below is the only one. It was taken the Christmas I was in first grade Dad’s command’s children’s Christmas party. I don’t remember the Santa particularly however I do remember my gift. I got books – Peter Rabbit and several other Beatrix Potter titles. I had been checking them out of the school library over and over, so “Santa” knew I would want them. It must say something about me and my tendency even at seven or eight years old not to feel like I was weird and different that I remember a sadness watching the other children open toys even though I wanted those books.
2. Are you currently on the Naughty or Nice list? How did you get there? I refuse to acknowledge the mutual exclusivity of “naughty” and “nice” therefore I submit for your consideration the idea I am on both lists. Nice is a given. I’m nice for a living, nice by nature as a people pleaser, and nice by choice. As for naughty, well, I am rather snobby and judgmental.
3. Did you ship any gifts to friends and family this year? If so, which one traveled the farthest? I shipped a box to Missouri for my BFF Kate and her daughter Sabrina. I sure hope it makes it on time.
4. Did you buy yourself a gift this year? Yep. I had to have this shirt.
5. What’s your favorite holiday-themed movie? It’s A Wonderful Life.
6. Thinking of movies, Christmas is lucrative for Hollywood. Have you ever gone to a movie theater on Christmas Day? Yes. On the years Dad would be out to sea for Christmas, Mom, my brother James and I would spend the entire day at the theater seeing two or three movies.
7. Have you ever suffered an embarrassing moment at the company Christmas party? Not so far, but the night is young. {Edit: I spilled a little food on myself, but honestly, I do that several times a week. It happens when you are clumsy and ample chested, so I’m not particularly embarrassed}
8. What’s your favorite beverage in cold weather? I love beverages. Tea is everyday for me, coffee often, so I would say my cold weather favorite would be hot cocoa made on the stove with milk and Hershey’s cocoa.
9. What will you remember most about 2012? It has been an amazing year. Getting engaged and our Klingon wedding while only legally binding in the Empire are to two stand out events of the year.

“It happens when you are clumsy and ample chested.” Truer words were never spoken.
How does one say, “Best wishes,” in Klingon?

The catch all word in Klingon is “Qapla” literally translated to “success.” Much like “aloha” it has many uses depending on the context.
